"She communicated regularly with parents through daily conversations. Parents felt comfortable with Matilda to be able to approach her with any issues. She attended and helped organise class Masses and Liturgies. Matilda also involved herself in the children’s Family Mass which was held on a Sunday."- Alicia Farina, Mentor Teacher, 2016.
"Matilda developed confidence in engaging parents and carers in informal discussions about their child. Matilda is aware of the need for confidentiality required within our profession and the implications of relevant organisational processes when planning student activities, especially when they involved parent and carer support within the classroom."- Jennie Hessling, Mentor Teacher, 2015.
During my time spent on placements I have worked hard at developing my ability to interact and engage with parents and caregivers. I have helped run days such as Grandparents day and Family Masses, where I have interacted with parents/carers. I have helped on excursions where I have engaged with parent helpers. On my final teaching placement there were incidences at school which resulted in me responding appropriately to parents/carers. There were also occasions where parents would approach me about how there child was progressing. As a teacher I have realised the importance of the relationship between teacher and parents/carers.
I provided parents/carers with an introductory letter about myself when I started my final teaching placement. I felt it was important to make that first contact with parents so they felt they could approach me. It also gave a starting point for forming relationships with the families of the students I would be teaching.
